# How to Use the Dental Chart

> Chart tooth conditions, record completed work, and plan future treatments in OdontoX.

The dental chart (odontogram) is a visual record of each tooth's conditions, completed procedures, and planned treatments.

**Who can do this:** Admins and Doctors.

## Open the dental chart

1. Open a patient record or an appointment.
2. Switch to the **Clinical** tab.
3. The dental chart loads with the patient's current state.

## Chart a tooth

1. Tap or click a tooth.
2. The per-tooth panel opens on the right.
3. Add a condition, restoration, or planned treatment.
4. The chart auto-saves shortly after your last edit.

## What the colours mean

The chart uses visual indicators to show:

* **Existing conditions** — decay, fractures, missing teeth, etc.
* **Completed work** — fillings, crowns, extractions, etc.
* **Planned treatments** — work proposed in a treatment plan

## Add notes to a tooth

The per-tooth panel has a **Notes** tab. You can:

* type directly
* dictate with the microphone
* use AI tools to rewrite or structure the note

Notes save to the patient's clinical record and appear in the clinical-notes timeline.

## Chart on iPad

The dental chart is optimised for iPad. Each tooth is rendered independently, so tapping one tooth does not redraw the rest of the chart. This keeps the chart responsive on tablets.
